Tall ship sketch Pin chase: A training exercise that helps familiarize crew members with the arrangement of lines on a vessel's pin rail.
Pin Chases

'Pin Chases' is a free service for historic sailing vessels. It is intended as a training aid for crew that are working on, or intend to work on, any of the ships represented here.

A modern browser is required and Javascript must be enabled.

The applications are not limited to pin chases. They may also be used for other purposes as well such as identfying sails, spars, or any thing else that can be diagramed. See the links to the Rose* below for examples.

Captains and owners may have their ships added to this list without charge. See this page for how you can get your ship listed and contact information.

* Data for the Rose pages came from 'A Manual for Sailing Aboard the American Tall Ship Rose' by Capt. Richard Bailey (©Capt. Richard Bailey).

For those who haven't heard, the Rose is no longer. It was bought to make the movie 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World' and renamed the 'HMS Surprise'. Fortunately she has been made seaworthy, has gotten her CG certs, and is back at sea (for real) thanks to the efforts of the Maritime Museum of San Diego. The Surpise sports royals and is rigged for stunsails so the Rose diagrams may not help much for working the Surprise.
